This is who we are
Our fellowship began to meet in the home of our pastor in November 1997. Since then our numbers have grown. We now meet each Sunday morning in our church building, located in Batticaloa.
We are people from all kinds of backgrounds who come together to worship the Lord and to be taught by Him. We do this by singing hymns and psalms, praying together and hearing the preaching of His Word.
Our beliefs are summarised in the Baptist Confession of 1689 but fundamentally we believe that the Bible is the word of God: every word inspired by Him. We believe that it has been faithfully handed down to us and that it contains all we need to know to serve God well in today's world. We believe that it is the best guide for our lives and that it must be heeded. So we aim to present its teaching with faithfulness to what God has said and in such a way that it is understandable to all.
If you do not attend another church, or if you are visiting the area please come and join us. You will be made very welcome.
Meet our pastor
Pastor Ketheeswaran was born and grew up in the south of Batticaloa District in eastern Sri Lanka. He is married to Ruba and has one daughter, Ruth.
As a young man Kethees was forced to leave Sri Lanka to live in India where events left him without friends or income and with no way to return home. Hunger and loneliness led to depression such that he planned to take his own life. It was then that God brought him into contact with a Christian believer who cared for him and gave him work. After about three months, searching for guidance for the future, Kethees picked up a Bible and began to read. The words he read directly addressed his situation so he continued to read the scriptures and within a matter of weeks yielded his life to the Lord.
He returned to Sri Lanka and after marrying Ruba, a believer from Trincomalee, he moved to Batticaloa with the intention of establishing a church that would bring the good news he had been told about Jesus Christ to the people of his home town.
Pastor Kethees has also planted a church in Killinochi. He continues to visit and preach there regularly.
